This is a very difficult time for local businesses. I have heard from many who are facing great adversity with families at risk. This reminds me of the story of Jeremiah Lanphier in the mid 19th century. In 1857, bank failures and the market crash produced panic in America. Out of desperation, Jeremiah Lanphier spent his last dollar to print flyers for a noontime prayer meeting that he gave to out-of-work business leaders in New York City. Within 6 months, more than 10,000 people were gathering at Lanphier’s prayer meetings, which is often referred to as the Third Great Awakening in America.
I am hosting a modern noontime prayer meeting for local businesses in the spirit of Jeremiah Lanphier’s prayer meetings. It will be open for anyone to join via Zoom call Monday – Friday at noon for an hour. You can join me any day that you are available from your phone, tablet, or computer. Please forward this to anyone that you think would like to join us.
